George Chilmonik

My service to the Phillipsburg Education Association began in 1980 as a member of the negotiating team. Since that time, I have served as a building representative, Treasurer, Vice-president, chief negotiator and President. I have served on numerous local, county and state committees and continue to do so.

I have been a mathematics teacher at Phillipsburg High School for thirty-five years.

During my term as President, the relationship between the PEA and the school board has been on a positive course. All contracts have been resolved with compromise rather than third party legal action. I want this relationship to continue so that we can get the best contracts for our members and their families. We have seen no changes in our health plan and strong growth in the salary guides in the last two contracts.

Our starting salary is the fifteenth highest in the state and by building on this strong foundation, we will see our whole guide grow to one of the best in the state.

We will be negotiating for a new teacher contract in the fall which will affect the contracts of the secretaries, custodians, teacher aides and security guards. In spite of dismal state aid amounts, I believe that a fair contract can be realized.

These will be very difficult negotiations but we can succeed through unity, cooperation and creativity. My experience and sense of purpose can lead us to this goal and I ask for your support.
